Welcome, to the visual corners of my heart. I’m glad you’re here. It’s like inviting a friend into my cozy living room, and sharing all my crazy stories.

My name is Suraja, which translates to source of light in many cultures. The Arabic and Persian iterations are my favourite: “star cluster” or “the Pleiades,” a bright gathering in the sky.

​

I was born and raised in the world’s most forested country, Suriname, and now live somewhere below sea level.

​

Eleven years ago, my creative voice began to take shape through photography. Took me ages to hit “share”. But hey, now’s the moment! ...to be brave

​

Through photography and writing, I document what it means to be alive without holding anything back. Love and grief. Solitude and connection. The sacred and the mundane.

 

My photography style leans towards "Ichi-go ichi-e". A Japanese philosophy emphasizing the uniqueness of unrepeatable moments, encountered once and never in the same way again.

When I’m not behind the camera or lost in words, you’ll find me in the role of a CRO (Chief Relaxation Officer) or chasing the next great cup of specialty coffee.
